Thorough Research

This book makes a good companion to the Four Imāms by Muhammad Abu Zahra (d.1974) but as a standalone book it falls a little flat. The contents are laid out well making the structure easy to follow as well as making for an excellent resource guide as it is superbly researched and referenced as you would come to expect from the works of Shaykh Gibril Fouad Haddad, yet it is lacking in meeting the expectation you derive from its title. It contains many sub-sections with seamless unsystematic information about each Imām in their respective chapter. There is a lack of a structure even though the selection of material is exemplary. It often goes on a tangent pertaining to contemporaries or students of the Imāms which is welcomed for additional information purposes but it lacks the crux for which it will be purchased.

It is rather a collection of anecdotes which although I enjoyed very much, I'm not sure if others who may purchase this wanting to know about the lives and schools of the Four Imāms will appreciate. It surprisingly has no mention of the methodological approaches of the Imāms to the sources from which their schools developed and took shape, hence despite its large size; it is rather limited in scope. Although this work has issues (some possibly related to Nashqbandi vs. Shadhilli), I would still recommend it. I was highly appreciative of the scrupulous research of Shaykh Haddad and his referencing of everything he quotes, that alone makes it worthy of owning as a rich resource and the material it does contain on the Imāms is commendable, only it is not a thorough study of their schools or even their lives. However, you will benefit from this work but I recommend you read the work of Muhammad Abu Zahra first to get the most out of this book.

Many civil and mechanical engineering structures exhibit nonlinear hysteretic behavior when subject to dynamic loads. The modeling and identification of non-linear hysteretic systems is a practical but challenging problem encountered in the engineering field. To overcome such a challenge, this book proposes the application of a reduced-order finite element model in conjunction with a recently proposed damage detection technique, referred to as the adaptive quadratic sum-square error with unknown inputs (AQSSE-UI). The identification process is divided into two steps: 1) static condensation technique is used to reduce the order of the equations of motion of the finite-element model; 2) AQSSE-UI is used for the on-line system identification and damage detection of the reduced order system. The proposed approach is capable of identifying time-varying parameters of linear or nonlinear hysteresis structures. The capability of the proposed damage detection technique is demonstrated by shake table test on three large-scale structures at NCREE, Taiwan.

Dr. Ye Xia is a scholar in system identification and damage detection, which are the subjects he researches in Ph.D. period at University of California, Irvine. He obtained the Bachelor and Master degree of Bridge Engineering from Tongji University, Shanghai, China with special interest on bridge design and structural health monitoring.

Clear, easy, and readable book for system ID

Very interesting book. Nice that the book starts theory of least squares estimation and goes on from there. The followed experiments nicely explained the essence of system identification for linear and non-linear systems. The systematic parametric study in the end could be useful reference for further studies on simple frame structures.
It would be fantastic to show the Matlab programs in the book. But I cannot complain much about it since all the formula are clearly given.

This book really helps to pull apart the biblical fatherhood that this world needs. This book is for any Dad that is looking for guidance or a refresher on what God says our role and need for strong and grave fathers.

What a beautifully written Christian book for new Dads. I gave one each to my own grandson who was a new dad, and one to my grand daughter's husband, who was a new dad, also! They both told me how they knew most of everything in the books, but appreciated the reminders! Both boys have been raised in the church, but a little nudge never hurts!!!
