Anne L. Boedecker, PhD has been a psychologist and GLBTQQI ally and advocate for over 30 years. She practices in central New Hampshire, seeing clients from all of northern New England. As a gender specialist, she searched in vain for a book to give her clients who were considering a gender transition. Realizing that she could write such a reference herself by drawing on many years of experience working with and guiding clients through this process, she published The Transgender Guidebook: Keys to a Successful Transition. Following many requests for a more practical workbook she has now written two companion volumes, The Transgender Workbooks.

This is what it says - a work book. Not quite as good as I imagined it when I read her other book (The Transgender Guidebook: Keys to a Successful Transition), but it is a nice book for those that thrive on lists and details.

To learn the groundwater modeling techniques, the students or the professionals need the suitable software and the textbook which explaines clearly the theory and the used software.The book must explaine the procedures step by step and from start to to the end.But nowadays, if you have not enough money to purchase the commercial modflow based software, it is a pity that you have to learn MODFLOW codes.It was the undesriable things.Hydrogeological modeling means interpretation.But there is no possibility to see visual something among the codes.I created the input and as a result output errors during the simulations with codes at the beginning.There is a good words in computer technology; Gap In Gap Out.It summurizes the best what i meant.Definitely all hydrogeologists have to know all background informations on groundwater modeling techniques and the structure of used softwares. But i think, groundwater modeling is more than a science, it is a art which must have a visual effect.So that I have looked for the best groundwater modeling book and the software since 1991.At the end, i have found, what i have ever looked for. This is this book which combines the latest modeling techniques and the latest modeling software.You can learn the latest modeling techniques written by the leading teaching experts and creators of PMWIN.This 344 pages textbook walks the practising engineers or students through the modeling process from start to finish.You don't need any other additional tool.This book has also the best groundwater modeling and contaminant transport modeling software. Especially it is the best learning asistance with example problems for the students and practising professionals.
With PMWIN ,groundwater modeling has never been so easy.It is more than a pre and post processor of MODFLOW family (88,96 or 2000);it is a great modeling environment in which you can find what you needed. You can also realize your all modeling and contaminant transport dreams with using all MOC3D, MT3D, PHT3D or RT3D family ( it was a dream for me ).
PMWIN is an advanced environment which has a digitizer, field interpolater, field generator and environment for the background images or dxf files.You can import vector or raster based images...create your own georeferenced background maps.You can interpolate your datas by using FIELDinterpolater and export your kriging results just in a minute with field generator.You can find 4 different interpolation methos.The most complex 3D preprocessing, such as surface or layer property routines take max.30 minutes.You can enter your values to cells, either in cell by cell method or in zonal method or using interchange options from the field interpolater program.
The PMWIN has a preference options the simulation can be performed either with MODFLOW 88,96 or 2000.The all datas will be controlled by the PMWIN, if needed you will be directed for the deficit inputs.After the modflow simulation has finished, the RESULTextractor gets your results in a matrix dialog. If you prefer to open your datas in an other application such as SURFER, it is also possible, you can export your matrix result. PMWIN creates two output files; one of them USGS's *.nam file, the other is the PMWIN's *.pm5 file.For example if you have only GE, you can also visualize your modflow code simulation results in GE environment because GE reads the modflows *.nam files.
If you have GE (it is an optional, low cost 3D visualization tool.It is the cheapest, the best and the easiest tool in the industry).I have tried the all other visulalzation tools, GE is the best, GE is the simple.If you wonder about the prices, it app.250 USD.The most complex and troublous datas will be shown so clearly in 2 minutes.PMWIN and GE or some other add on modules work seamlessly and perfect.The author and the programmer Prof.Wen-Hsing CHAING had thought everything.I have examined PMWIN with the most complex problems,the program has never stooped or the operating system has never collapsed.The PMWIN 5.1.7 permits 250.000 cells but with MF2K add on modules it can be reached up 640.000 cells. Again no problem, no colapse in system.If your operating system is stable, it works so unique.
If you are an unexperienced modeler or beginner,it is not problem.After one or two day with this book; definitely you will become more familiar.It is so simple that the visualization processes take just 2 minutes...you can create your own animations and import your animation scenes in many digital formats such as *.BMP, *.GIF and modify there and present.
With some additional add on modules which have been created again by the Authors of the book, you can merge with other modeling tools such as RT3D or PHT3D.I have contacted to Prof.wen-Hsing CHAING and learned that there will be a lot of add on modules...one of them is the surface water/groundwater interaction modules.I have also learned that GE will be used for the presentation of the surface waters and the meteorological datas.It means, PMWIN will be the best software in this industry.Many of the commercial modflow processors are still using Modflow 96. The MODFLOW 2000, PEST-ASP and the late version of the UCODE had been added in April 2001 to PMWIN.And it works without any problem since April 2001. I have contacted and got more additional information about the PMWIN and the book. I am gratefull to Prof.Kinzelbach and Prof.Wen-Hsiang CHAING who has written 3D GROUNDWATER MODELING WITH PMWIN and created,developed the PMWIN, GE and MODFLOW 2000 add on modules.I have found the best software and the best TEXTBOOK.This book is really excellent and can be advised both to the students,practical engineers and advanced groundwater modelers, as a compherensive guide to modeling and complete the exercises to refresh their knowledges.And also... Especially for the professors , this book will be an excellent primary text for a university course, or as asupplement to an existing curriculum.

A recommandable book and software for groundwater modeling

PMWIN is an excellent software for the simulation of groundwater flow and transport. This comprehensive software makes it easy to setup own groundwater problems. It comprises a lot of additional programs and useful tools which help to describe and analyse a problem very clearly. For example, a model for the simulation of single and multi-species transport is included as well as the full version of PEST, the famous code for parameter estimation. Many features facilitate showing and printing of the results. The book contains a lot of elucidations and examples. Some features are still in development but should be released soon, like 3D visualization and geochemical model. Alltogether a very recommandable book and software.

I was using earlier version of pmwin and 3-d visualisation was missing. Therefore I always in preferred to work with Visual Modflow with 3-D explorer and GMS. Now using version 5 of PMWIN with 3-D explorer, I was thrilled. Really it is wounderful and quite simple. I do not find it is less than other counter part Commercial Software. Its 3-D explorer is better than Visual Modflow 3-d explorer.

A short, but very nice chronicle of what's wrong with our banking system and an important piece for anyone who still believes the narrative sold to people during and after the 2008/2009 housing crash.

Startling

If you want to read a book on how the Fed, the government, and Wall Street are bedfellows in clear, concise, and understandable terms, then read this short book. It's eye opening, written by a person who was there, has integrity and credentials, and can explain things so anybody can understand. That's why the stock market keeps going up and up, but, the United States will have to pay the piper someday. Excellent reading for those who want to know.

A Highly Engrossing and Accessible Account of the Decay of our Economic and Political System

If you want to understand how the biggest theft in world history took place, I highly recommend this book. I've read other accounts of the Financial Collapse of 2008 that left me scratching my head, but Ms. Tavakoli has a fluid and accessible writing style that allows the reader to understand what happened, why it happened and how it is likely to happen again. This book is enraging since it clearly demonstrates how a bunch of pompous sociopaths managed to privatize rewards and socialize risk in the banking sector, while producing nothing of value to the public at large. The executives at Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan Chase and the other Too Big To Fail institutions should be rotting in prison for their crimes, but instead are protected by a political and regulatory system that is bought and paid for by their political contributions. It's a shame that the American Taxpayers are too stupid to force these criminals to be subject to justice for their crimes.

Chinese: A Comprehensive Grammar

This is a very comprehensive book, with many well-explained examples. The book makes full use of simplified chinese characters (as used on the Chinese mainland), pinyin, and in some cases literal translations, as well as full english translations.
Key language concepts are well explained, and emphasis is placed on features which may pose an extra challenge to the learner of chinese as a foreign language.
This book treats the language from a fairly academic point of view. Thus it is excellent for those wishing to attain a deep understanding of the language, rather than to learn a few superficial phrases as is too often the case with travellers' phrase books.
However, this book 'is intended for readers who have some knowledge of the (chinese) language and are at ease with its written form'. This is certainly the case, as the book employs a wide range of complex vocabulary right from the outset. Thus, not for beginners.
Overall, an excellent reference book for those who already have at least a basic knowledge of chinese. Not recommended for beginners, but a separate book by the same authors entitled 'Basic Chinese' is a superb book for those new to chinese.

A great grammar - n.b. a few errors

This is a grammar most deserving of its title. It is truly comprehensive in every sense of the word. The grammar is explained along lines that a Westerner with even a pinch of grammatical knowledge can understand.

It is probably a good idea that the examples of erroneous grammar are included, complete with an asterisk to indicate that it is an error. However, I can't help feeling that they'll remain in my memory and I won't be able to tell the difference between a sentence that's been hailed as a grammatically correct example and one that is incorrect. I can't really think of any alternatives to the way the authors have done this though.

It would be great if there were just a few exercises at the end of each chapter, complete with an answer key. That really wouldn't add all that much to the total page count of the book, but would greatly add to its overall usefulness. After all, most of us who actually buy/read this book are students of Chinese who need all the exercises we can get - aren't we?

Lastly, here are a few errors I found in this book:

In the index, on page 417 xiang3 points to a non-existent 8.1.6. It should be 18.1.6 (page 284).

ning4ke3 and ning4yuan4 (section 22.3.8, page 342) should have exactly the tones which I have indicated. In error, this book introduces both words with the correct tones, and then proceeds to give examples with the wrong tones.

Duo1 is confused with dou1 twice on page 181.

The index has an entry "causative sentences - 20.1". There are no causative sentences at 20.1.

I'm not sure whether the below should be classified as errors or shortcomings:

On page 46, section 2.14 should be cross referenced to chapter 7.

Hai2shi0 (or) is explained in section 23.4. But there's no reference made to huo4zhe3 at all, which is exceedingly relevant.

Very thorough

I am a high school student in his fourth year of Chinese learning. My teacher is Chinese, and is not the most proficient English speaker in the world, which occasionally leaves my grammatical questions hanging. I purchased this book to solve that problem. I will say that it is rather expensive, but I believe that it was well worth it.

It seems as though the diction the author uses in the main text is geared towards more advanced speakers of English, ones who are familiar with in-depth grammatical terms. I've tried explaining the more complicated aspects of Chinese grammar to my classmates - who have been studying just as long as I have - using the most accurate grammatical terms as in the writing of this textbook, and I receive blank stares in return. It is likely, based upon my experience, that the average high school student (and maybe also a good number of college ones, as well) will not easily understand the information in this book. The type of student who will get the most out of this book is the one who studies grammar in his free time.

As for the content of the book, it is organized logically and clearly. There is a detailed table of contents to help in finding exactly what needs to be found. Note: another reviewer has pointed out that there may be some cross-referencing issues, etc. in it, and I have noticed these, but I haven't found any mistakes which make the content difficult to understand (beside the fact that some of the content is difficult to understand in the first place). There are a few inconsistencies in the labeling of the pinyin which I've noticed, but they are few and far between, generally speaking.

It details out the different sentence types - expository, narrative, declarative, imperative, interrogatory, and so on - and all of the ways in which these sentences can be constructed in Chinese. It also examines the attributive and predicative structures of adjectives, which seems to be one of the most important aspects of the language, and makes it very clear how they are used in sentences. Furthermore, throughout the text, information for formality and style for written Chinese is included.

Though I have studied four years, I am obviously not fluent; the reason I like this book so much is because it consolidates the foundation of the grammar which I have learned previously and contains enough information to help me continue my growth.

This volume continues the study of the eighteenth century begun in Haydn, Mozart, and the Viennese School 1740–1780 (1995) by focusing on the capital cities other than Vienna that were most important in the creation and diffusion of new music. It tells of events in Naples, where Vinci and Pergolesi went beyond their pre-1720 models to cultivate opera in a simpler, more direct manner, soon after christened the galant style. No less central was Venice, where Vivaldi perfected the concerto, on which were patterned the early symphonies and the newer kind of sonata. Dresden profited first from all these achievements and became, under Hasse's direction, the foremost center of Italian opera in Germany. Mannheim with its great orchestra did much to shape the modern symphony. A few years later, Paris became paramount, especially for its Op�ra-Comique; during the 1770s the Op�ra provided Gluck with a stage on which to cap his long international career. The book concludes with a description of Christian Bach in London, Paisiello in Saint Petersburg, and Boccherini in Madrid.

This long-awaited book offers a view of eighteenth-century music that is broad and innovative while remaining sensitive to the values of those times and places. One comes away from it with an understanding of the European context behind the triumphs of Haydn and Mozart.

About the Author
For more than 30 years, Dr. Pattie Gibson has taught a variety of highly successful courses in computer applications and business systems to high school, community college, and university students in Arizona and overseas in West Berlin and Stuttgart, Germany. Dr. Gibson is currently an assistant professor in educational leadership at Northern Arizona University. She has written and co-authored several textbooks addressing office management and office skills as well as customer service. Dr. Gibson received her undergraduate and master's degrees from Arizona State University and her doctorate from Northern Arizona University.

The world of Customer Service

I loved this book honestly. It was super helpful in my degree and helped me learn a lot. I like the way the book is set up, which makes it easy to read and understand. But it didn't come in the condition it said it was. I bought it used which you can expect maybe a little wear because someone else used it but the seller said it was in perfect condition or like new. It was definitely far from. It was usable but the pages were super bent. It had writing in it all over, and a lot was highlighted. I would have preferred they said what it actually was like. I wanted to return it because it was frustrating to me that they lied but i needed it for school so i couldn't without missing homework.

Drawing on eye-witness testimony, Godbeer tells the story of Kate Branch, a seventeen-year-old afflicted by strange visions and given to blood-chilling wails of pain and fright. Branch accused several women of bewitching her, two of whom were put on trial for witchcraft. The book takes us inside the courtroom--and inside the minds of the surprisingly skeptical Stamford townfolk. Was the pain and screaming due to natural causes, or to supernatural causes? Was Branch simply faking the symptoms? And if she was bewitched, why believe her specific accusations, since her information came from demons who might well be lying? For the judges, Godbeer shows, the trial was a legal thicket. All agreed that witches posed a real and serious threat, but proving witchcraft (an invisible crime) in court was another matter. The court in Salem had become mired in controversy over its use of dubious evidence. In an intriguing passage, Godbeer examines Magistrate Jonathan Selleck's notes on how to determine the guilt of someone accused of witchcraft--an illuminating look at what constituted proof of witchcraft at the time. The stakes were high--if found guilty, the two accused women would be hanged.
In the afterword, Godbeer explains how he used the trial evidence to build his narrative, an inside look at the historian's craft that enhances this wonderful account of life in colonial New England.

A possible truth about the Salem trial.

It is interesting the way the author wrote this book. The first chapters put the frame of the scholar text. It is like reading a novel and then the last chapters gives more scholarly inside of this even. I was surprised that so few people had been killed for witchcraft during the Salem trials. From some pagan friends saying I was under the impression the number was much more high some thousand at least. It is a good book worth reading.

Excellent Choice

This book was a gift to a dear friend who provides vegetables to our home all season long. He had asked for a book that would help him with a few problems he was having in his garden. He told us just last week, I keep the book by my bedside, I have learned so much. Thanks for such a great gift, I wanted to thank him for his generous bounty that he shares willingly with us.

Best I've ever seen.

This book is a gardeners dream book. It has information on bugs that you don't want in your garden and what to do when your plants get spots on their leaves and such.
