No errata

The normal Magic Item Compendium gets 5 Stars from me, but this Premium edition does not. It does _not_ contain the promised errata.

If you have the normal MIC, don't buy this one.

Sharp looking but does NOT include errata as advertised.

Before Wizards of the Coast re-released the Magic Item Compendium, I had made a reasonable effort to buy this at a reasonable price, but was unsuccessful. I was delighted to finally be able to get my hands on a crisp new copy. It has a beautiful improvement to the cover. I would recommend this book to anyone who still plays D&D 3.5. It significantly improves the magic item options for low level characters.

That being said, I was disappointed to find that despite the advertisement that it "includes errata," it does not. Many of the errors would have been very simple to fix--substituting price X with price y--but this rudimentary copy editing was not done. If you are buying this book for the errata, you should save your money.

NO ERRATA

Wizards of the Coast/Hasbro lied! The Premium Spell Compendium, Monster Manual, Players Handbook, and Dungeon Master Guide all include the promised errata but this product doesn't have it at all. All you are paying for with this is a fancy new hard cover. Buy a used one if you really want this book and don't already have a copy. Better yet, find a copy on the internet.

Of all the Prep Books for AP CALC, this is the BEST (and I bought them all)

My son is currently taking Calculus AB and will be moving into Calculus BC, I purchased about 5 different prep books to help him prepare for the exam (both AB, BC, and Clep). At first, I thought going with the BC book would suffice for questions for the AB part of the exam and for most people, if you are doing both, you can get by with just the BC book. However, since my son's teacher asks questions from actual AP tests on his exams, I could not find enough Free Response AB questions in the BC book, so I bought the AB book also to get more questions. There is a lot of overlap in content in both the books by the same author. However, this is HANDS DOWN the best book from all the different groups in terms of questions, examples, preparation, etc. If you only buy one book, THIS (or the BC version) is the one to get. It comes with a good review of each unit, problems to practice for each unit and shows you the answers worked out for each set of problems. It also has 3 full practice tests with the problems worked out. I really liked that once you worked through them all you could find patterns of the types of problems to expect and how to do them. I feel that this book will prepare my son better than any of the other books we have for AP Calculus. He is also going to go ahead and take the Clep exam and we have a different book for that, the Clep, has a slightly different "flavor" than the AP Calc so if you are considering that test in addition or instead of, I would still suggest this book and the books with practice clep tests. This still helps you better than any clep books in overall review but the clep books will help you prepare for their type questions. The BC book, as I said, repeats content but adds the extra units with sequences and series and the few other topics scattered throughout such as parametric equations, etc.

Rings true to my repatriation experience

This book captured and helped make sense of the unsettling experiences my wife and I had in returning to the US after four years living and working in England. I think the best time to read it might be before you leave, but I only found it after returning (and hearing the author speak to a group of repatriates).
The book includes good practical insights and suggestions for employees, employers and co-workers, spouses, families, and teens/kids experiencing what the book calls "reverse culture shock."

A decent resource...

Of no surprise to anyone who has lived overseas and then attempted a successful 're-entry', coming home is tremendously more stressful and difficult than leaving home. Storti directs a company that designs and delivers seminars in cross-cultural adjustment, repatriation and multicultural diversity. Most striking about this book was how complex the issues are surrounding the re-entry of a family or person into a society and culture that no longer feels like his/her own. One of the most remarkable results of living overseas is that you come to understand your own culture much better and more clearly then those at home who are 'in' it. We experience this when we come home even for brief periods - the US is so enveloped in its high-consumerism that an outsider has difficulty finding value in the every day. While Americans have learned to absorb the 1000 cable channels, and 800 varieties of dog foods in the supermarket aisles, expatriates find it highly stressful to come back to a country where abundance, waste, and intense material comforts are the norm (after they've lived in places where all of these things are harder to find and they've adjusted thusly). Storti is also careful to speak to the frustrations that the homebound friends and family experience when their loved ones decend upon them after what they see as tremendous opportunities for cultural and personal growth. I found this book a very good resource and will likely pick it up again every time I am heading home - for a new series of stresses - to help remember why these stresses exist and how to soften them.

David More is a leading botanical illustrator who has previously illustrated guides on European and North American trees. John White had a long career in the research division of the Forestry Commission before retiring in 1996. He has contributed to many publications on the subject of northern hemisphere trees.

Beautiful book, very informative, enjoyable to read; hardiness ratings are dubious

I really enjoyed reading the book and examining the illustrations. It wasn't clear to me prior to purchase that the illustrations are not photographs, but after reading this book, I rather like the illustrations, as they capture the salient features of the tree bark and leaves in ways photographs might not. The range and anatomy of each tree is methodically described, and many cultivars of each species are described as well, which was a pleasant aspect. This book provides some horticultural advice, which is my principal interest, but no more than you could find with a Google search. For example, there is no information on transplant ease, seed stratification/scarification techniques, or major pests (other than mention of chestnut blight or dutch elm disease). I also found the hardiness ratings difficult to follow, since they are in percentage rather than zone, and furthermore I found some of those hardiness ratings just plain wrong, which was surprising for this second edition printing. For example: Bur Oak and Chinkapin Oak are listed as having "50% hardiness", which translates to -4F according to the table on P18; however, I've had both trees in my yard for years in USDA zone 4b, with regular -25F winter lows resulting in no injury. In fact, Bur Oak is typically rated to zone 3 (-40F). There were several other such examples, all of which served to make me doubt the hardiness accuracy for species I knew nothing about yet was interested in trying in my zone 4b location, such as some of the eastern European oaks. eg. Hungarian Oak was also rated at 50% hardiness (like Bur Oak), but turns out to be hardy only to zone 5 (-20F). Despite the hardiness, I still really enjoyed this book, and regard it as one of the best tree guides of worldwide scope that I've come across.

I'm so satisfied for this book. there's a lot of specification I didn't imagined of.
there's hundreds of photos, easy to understand, detailed instructions and explanation about the photos.
this book is focused on SHADOW VT600, but has specific photos of VT750 for some parts which differs from VT600.
If you are HONDA VT600 or VT750 owner be sure to buy this book.

Not that charmed....Spolier

Her Pirate Heart was in want of a plausible story line and a rational heroine. Set in the 17th century it had potential, especially the second half of the book, but it became frustrating due to the emotional upheavals of the heroine.

Adriana Joubert disguises herself as a boy and has done so for all of her seventeen years. Her mother began the ruse, and Adriana just continued to dress as a lad as she aged. The explanation for her mother's actions is absolutely ridiculous and hard to even imagine. Apparently Adriana's mother was married to a sea captain and while he was away on a sailing adventure, her mother had an affair resulting in a pregnancy. According to Adriana, her mother birthed her a few weeks after her brother died making Adrianna a year younger than her dead brother. Her mother passed her off as her dead brother. Wouldn't the sea captain recognize the switch when he returned?

Adriana has been sailing the seven seas for years when she meets Roarke, the Sea Wolf. She signs onto his ship and he is none the wiser that she is a female. Adriana is firmly convinced she can keep up her disguise, and believes she can pass as a boy indefinitely. She is discovered when she is told to bathe as she stinks to high heaven. Roarke realizes he has a beautiful female aboard but he also knows that she is in danger as many of his men are cutthroats and would not hesitate to violate her. He is on his way to the Caribbean to face an old enemy and tells Adriana that she must be put ashore when they spot land.

Spoiler...Adriana is furious about this. Even though she has been told repeatedly what will happen if her ruse is discovered, she does not listen, not even when one of the angry crew discovers she is a female, she can be very stubborn.

This couple's relationship improves when they are united against a common enemy and for the last third of the story they have a nice romance. If only they could have been as charming throughout the rest of the novel.

Lisa at her best - A historical romance treat!!!

For the last few years we have been delighted by the mesmerizing works of Lisa Verge Higgins and her works in the Women’s Fiction genre. Her stories have been poignant, hitting close to home and heart of the women who read her novels. Little did many of us know of a lighter and bawdier side of Lisa.
During her college years she started writing historical novels that would curl the toes of the staunchest church goer. But the novels were not devoted to heavy breathing, they were living works to a time before ours. She wrote novels that believed the women were not chattel, that they were capable of having a voice and controlling their destiny.

Her Pirate Heart is a new work, but stays true to her earlier style of writing. The only differences show in Lisa’s growth and maturity as an author. This can be seen in the depth of development of her core characters as the live, breath and walk across the pages of the novel. The storyline and plots of the book are full of twists that don’t allow the reader time to take a breath before sending them off on another hair-raising turn.
Lisa’s ability to raise the temperature in the room has not disappeared with time, either. While ramping up the temp and the hormones, she manages to accomplish it without embarrassing and tipping the scale to the more genteel side of the bedroom scene. (For once, maybe I didn’t quite skip over the “good” parts… lol.)
I love that Lisa chose to write about a lesser known time and area of early American, English, and French history as a historical novel. The Carolinas and early settlement, including stories about early settlement of the Huguenots is not front shelf material at the library. I love it, because it is part of my family history, at least the Huguenot portion of it. Except my family immigrated straight to New Orleans instead of the Carolinas during that time. Life if interesting.
Lisa, I hope to see more of your historical novels, along with your contemporary women’s fiction works in the future. The each command and fill a much needed void in the shelves of today’s literature. I think that you have proven, that a good story-teller transcends genre. It would be interesting to see where your lively and lovely imagination might take us next.

the structure is good and gives a thorough intro to all parts of HC, but there are some details might not be practical in the real healthcare system (or maybe only suitable for few community hospitals). Anyway, it still is a good book.

Terrible print quality

This printing is blurry and pixelated. It's really hard to read it. It's like someone published a bad photocopy of the real book. I wish I could have a better copy of this book.

Good supplemental book for going along with class.

Not a fan of the book, hard to follow because it lacks examples. It's also hard to read as a standalone book. Professor's teaching is necessary.
