Review
"Waveland's decision to pick up the book and price it affordably does my future students a real service. In my view, Nelson has written the best introduction to political thought when judged by its thoroughness of treatment, clarity of presentation, significance of content, and attention to scholarship." --Wes Martin, Keene State College

"Nelson's text is a contemporary classic. It explains the major concepts of each philosopher's political theory in a sophisticated way and yet is accessible to the beginner." --Sharon Murphy, Nazareth College

"Well-organized, in-depth, no-nonsense text at a good price." --Margaret Cecere, Lord Fairfax Community College

Just go buy it
By A Customer
I originally purchased this book for a Poli Sci class and lost it sometime after the class. A few years later I desperately wanted to re-read certain portions ( turned out to be all of it ) and actually bought it again. While it's obviously a summarization of many political ideologies, the breadth of information is excellent.

One of the best social science books I've read
By Joseph A. Lubin
I first read the book in POLSC 201: Intro to Political Theory. I found the book to be well written and easy to understand. I kept the book after the course was over and have since referred back to this book for many other classes. I recommend this book to all Liberal Arts and Social Science majors.

Breathtaking read!
By K. Loftis
I stumbled upon this book by total accident and set it aside for several months before reading it. I read it in four days! This is the first book I have read by this author, and I now see why it was a bookclub main selection!
The characters are memorable and and "real." They are not perfect-- like all of us, they are flawed-- they all have weaknesses and strengths, and this humanity is what makes them so unforgetable! The three Sylvander sisters are all very unique. Each subplot is fascinating, and the interweaving of the stories of the three sisters gives the book even more excitement for the reader. The passion and pathos of the story-- the pain and triumphs, tragedies and romance, make this novel so endearing and memorable.
Briskin also uses vivid imagery to bring the settings and characters to life in the minds and hearts of her readers. The locations are exotic-- from London to L.A and all the way to the Middle East. The plot is highly involved and truly fascinating. The characters are not stereotypical in that noone is "all good" or "all bad." I felt, while reading this, as if they were part of my family. I laughed and cried for them as they progressed through the story. I literally clapped and cheered in places, and wiped tears from my eyes at others!
Walk, don't run, and find a copy of this book! If you like good literature, you won't be disappointed. I will cherish rereading this book for a lifetime! It's that wonderful!

One of the best books I have read!
By Betzabeth Sandoval
I'm only 15 years old but I have been reading romance novels and other books that wouldn't be normally read by a teenager. This book made me cry many a time while I read it which was about four days. This is not unusual but it made me think and it made me realize how much our actions can shape others lives. I loved reading her book and I am hoping to find her other books so I may read them as well. This story has a very good plot and I recommend it to others and maybe if you are a romantic like myself you get pulled into the action and put yourself in their shoes like I did. Because I have such a soft heart I actually experience the pain the character must be feeling in parts of this book. I loved it and hope this review will prompt others to read it.

My review for Naughty Wives.
By David James Wilson
Like most of Project-H's novels, the overall story of the first installment got to be very well-written and etiquette for and an adult novel. However, I was disappointed when I found out that the novel didn't come in an uncensored version like most of Project-Hs' previous novels. But overall, it is a well-written novel that everyone should check out.

"It's time to let the secret out: Mathematics is not primarily a matter of plugging numbers into formulas and performing rote computations. It is a way of thinking and questioning that may be unfamiliar to many of us, but is available to almost all of us." So states John Allen Paulos in A Mathematician Reads the Newspaper (New York: Anchor Books, 1996).

This second edition of Teaching Mathematics for the 21st Century is intended to help you let the secret out—to open up to your students the wonderful discoveries and challenges of the pattern-making and problem-solving aspects of a subject you may already find fascinating. If you think back to those mathematics teachers who surely inspired you to want to emulate their enthusiasm, clarity, and reasoning ability, we believe you can see that they, too, opened doors to your understanding of content beyond the procedures. The beauty and elegance of mathematics, as well as the need to apply mathematics to become an informed citizen of our democracy, must be imparted to today's students. This can be a big challenge when these students bring into your classroom a mind-set with a more limited (and to them, boring) perspective of mathematics.

This book came out of our experiences in middle-and high-school classrooms, as well as our extensive work with pre- and in-service teachers. Not only have we provided mathematics teachers with many forms of professional development but we have also visited the classrooms of hundreds of teachers in many different types of communities and been inspired by observing situations where mathematical understanding is clearly a goal that is being realized. We call the kind of teaching that goes on in these classrooms "Standards-based," referring to the Standards documents produced by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the most recent of which is the Principles and Standards for School Mathematics (PSSM, 2000). All mathematics teachers can implement Standards based instruction in their classrooms, and all students can benefit from this experience.

We trust that the assistance provided through this book and through your pre-service and in-service classes will help you enjoy a career that is person ally and professionally satisfying. And we hope that mathematical thinking will become a common part of your students' lives.

ORGANIZATION OF THE TEXT

Teaching Mathematics for the 21st Century contains twelve chapters organized into three overall parts. The first five chapters provide both theoretical and practical suggestions concerning what you should know and consider before you "step on the stage" of your first classroom. Chapters 6 through 10 discuss the ongoing realities of the classroom—planning and fine-tuning daily lessons, managing classrooms where discourse is valued, assessing and evaluating students, and dealing with issues of equity as they affect the classroom. The final two chapters look to your future as a member of a professional community, both in how you relate to constituents outside of education and how you avail yourself of ongoing professional growth activities as a lifelong learner. Within each part, the chapters are independent and can be studied in any order.

Part I: Prior to Entering the Classroom

Chapter 1, "History and Introduction to Mathematics Education Reform," provides extensive background about the history and development of the significant concepts leading to the current reform. The chapter details methods of teaching mathematics throughout the last half of the 20th century. We discuss research in cooperative learning and offer practical suggestions for implementing cooperative learning, one of the common activities in contemporary teaching practice. The mathematical focus of the activities in this chapter is logic.

Chapter 2, "Learning, Motivation, and Basic Management Skills," begins by discussing the main learning theories and models of intelligence that underlie the educational psychology behind reform in mathematics education. The section on motivation introduces some main concepts of the topic. Aspects of motivation are interwoven with the selection of activities and instructional design throughout the book. The second half of the chapter is devoted to decisions related to management skills teachers need before the first day of class. Examples and problems center on probability. Different approaches to probability tasks illustrate different theories of learning. Motivation and management issues also come into play with this content area, since probability tasks most often involve hands-on activities.

Chapter 3, "Concrete to Abstract With Tools, Manipulatives, Computer Programs, and Calculators," introduces a variety of methods to increase the preservice teacher's tool kit of teaching ideas. An effective way to explore this chapter is with a series of stations using the different manipulatives and calculators in a round-robin laboratory setting. Groups of students spend a given time at each station to become familiar with the available manipulative, and then they rotate to the next station. If class sets are available, lessons and activities using the MIRA, patty paper, and graphing calculators can be done more easily with the entire class working simultaneously on the same exercise in cooperative groups. Of course, the computer activities can be supplemented according to the computer software available at your site. The unifying topics for this chapter consist of the foundational concepts of arithmetic, geometry, and algebra. Secondary teachers need to understand the concept development approach to mathematics both as a preferred way of introducing new topics and as an approach to intervention.

Chapter 4, "Standards-Based Curricula With Sample Lessons," provides an opportunity to explore elements of different reform curricula, including sample materials from some programs. The chapter contrasts and compares segments of instructional sequences within some exemplary middle- and high-school programs. The emphasis is on data analysis activities incorporating methods of data collection (including the use of probeware) and ways to analyze data. What better content to link with reform materials than data analysis, since it effectively meshes the Technology Principle with the Representation and Communication Standards of the PSSM?

Chapter 5, "Geometry and Algebra Redefined?" explores the current development of these areas of mathematics and illustrates effective ways to integrate them. Algebra and geometry activities in the chapter provide the vehicle for this discussion.

Part II: Teaching and Learning in the Classroom

The second part of the text begins with Chapter 6, "Planning Instruction." This chapter starts with an overview of the teacher's community and school culture. Next, a discussion of semester, unit, and daily planning gives examples for each stage in the planning process. The chapter highlights different strategies for effective lessons based on the materials to be studied. The examples and problems in this chapter focus on matrices and their applications, as that topic lends itself to many different grade levels and applications.

Chapter 7, "Promoting Communication in the Classroom," presents a view of discipline as an integral part of instruction and classroom communication. We offer practical suggestions for promoting discourse, encouraging communication through student writing, and building a community of learners. Illustrations and problems are drawn from the discrete mathematics topics of graph theory and group theory, both of which lend themselves well to various types of classroom communication.

In Chapter 8, "Assessing Individual Student Performance," we introduce formative assessment and summative assessment (evaluation). The discussion includes basic test design and grade determination, topics of great concern to beginning teachers. Activities involving patterns in mathematics illustrate the importance of assessing students' mathematical reasoning in a Standards based classroom.

The topic of Chapter 9, "Student Equity," is complex and broad. This chapter serves only as an introduction to some of the equity issues facing teachers. The prevailing issue throughout the chapter is how to make mathematics accessible to all students. A discussion of the effects of tracking is followed by considerations of effective ways to help multicultural/multiethnic students, females, gifted/ talented students, and students with mild learning difficulties to be successful in mathematics. The mathematical emphasis of this chapter is nonstandard problems that are rich in content yet open to a variety of solution approaches.

Chapter 10, "Focus on Performance Assessment," extends the discussion of assessment in Chapter 8 by exploring the use of performance tasks and rubric scoring. In our experience, the area of assessment has grown so complex, with alternative methods unfamiliar to student teachers, that it is best to approach assessment in two different chapters with time between to absorb this broad and very important aspect of Standards based teaching. The role of externally mandated assessments also is presented. The chapter also touches on uses of the Internet by mathematics students and their families. Investigations in applied mathematics and modeling allow students to practice writing solutions that are assessed by rubrics.

Part III: Ongoing Development

The third part of this text opens with Chapter 11, "Communicating With Parents and Community." This chapter demonstrates effective ways to interact with parents, the school community, and other mathematics students. Topics include managing back-to-school nights, parent conferences, family mathematics nights, and entry into mathematics contests. The mathematical content comprises number sense, estimation, and measurement, all of which are mathematical tasks that can be connected to real-life experiences....

already obsolete
By Charles R. Williams
This book is rambling, incoherent, repetitive, intellectually dishonest and manipulative. It presents a extreme, one-sided interpretation of the 1989 NCTM math standards as universally recognized, research-based "best practice."
I would recommend that anyone choosing texts for a math methods course use the 2000 NCTM standards themselves and, if necessary, a generic teaching methods text.
The 2000 Standards document is economical, beautifully done and, most importantly, far closer to a consensus of teachers, teacher educators, mathematicians and psychologists on what constitutes best practice than the 1989 document which inspires this text.

The Burning Legion has been defeated, and eastern regions of Kalimdor are now shared by two nations: the orcs of Durotar, led by their noble Warchief, Thrall; and the humans of Theramore, led by one of the most powerful mages alive -- Lady Jaina Proudmoore.

But the tentative peace between orcs and humans is suddenly crumbling. Random attacks against Durotar's holdings suggest that the humans have renewed their aggression toward the orcs. Now Jaina and Thrall must avert disaster before old hatreds are rekindled -- and Kalimdor is plunged into another devastating war.

World of Warcraft: Cycle of Hatred
By Leeanna Chetsko
World of Warcraft: Cycle of Hatred, by Keith R. A. DeCandido

Set a year prior to the opening of the World of Warcraft MMO, "Cycle of Hatred" would perhaps better be titled "Cycle of Blah." Unlike most novels set in the Warcraft universe, this one doesn't really add anything at all to the world.

The plot is mediocre and has no twists or turns - it's straightforwardly flat. You easily guess what's going to happen. Jaina Proudmoore and Thrall aren't true to their established characterization; it feels like the author didn't do any research before writing this book. There are three strong female characters in the book; DeCandido constantly harps on how a woman has to work harder than a man to be in power. It's very overdone, and I was rolling my eyes the second time it came up, let alone the third, the fourth, etc. The characters and plot feel very flat, very one dimensional.

For me, this is the worst of the World of Warcraft novels. I've read all multiple times, and this is my least favorite and the least enjoyable. It's blah - not good, not bad - just blah. If you're a WoW player, or curious about the universe, and want to read some of the books, I recommend you pick something other than this one.

Narconomics: How to Run a Drug Cartel, by Tom Wainwright

What drug lords learned from big business

How does a budding cartel boss succeed (and survive) in the $300 billion illegal drug business? By learning from the best, of course. From creating brand value to fine-tuning customer service, the folks running cartels have been attentive students of the strategy and tactics used by corporations such as Walmart, McDonald’s, and Coca-Cola.
And what can government learn to combat this scourge? By analyzing the cartels as companies, law enforcers might better understand how they work—and stop throwing away $100 billion a year in a futile effort to win the “war” against this global, highly organized business.
Your intrepid guide to the most exotic and brutal industry on earth is Tom Wainwright. Picking his way through Andean cocaine fields, Central American prisons, Colorado pot shops, and the online drug dens of the Dark Web, Wainwright provides a fresh, innovative look into the drug trade and its 250 million customers.
The cast of characters includes “Bin Laden,” the Bolivian coca guide; “Old Lin,” the Salvadoran gang leader; “Starboy,” the millionaire New Zealand pill maker; and a cozy Mexican grandmother who cooks blueberry pancakes while plotting murder. Along with presidents, cops, and teenage hitmen, they explain such matters as the business purpose for head-to-toe tattoos, how gangs decide whether to compete or collude, and why cartels care a surprising amount about corporate social responsibility.
More than just an investigation of how drug cartels do business, Narconomics is also a blueprint for how to defeat them.

Amazon.com Review
An Amazon Best Book of February 2016: Chances are when you hear someone talking about the drug trade what comes to mind is an image from T.V. or the movies—seedy dealers, million-dollar busts, films like Traffic and shows like The Wire. In Narconomics, author Tom Wainwright looks at the drug business as…a business. And it’s fascinating. We already know how internet shopping has changed the way people buy and sell goods, but in the course of his research Wainwright learned that all manner of illegal drugs are increasingly being bought and sold online, too. Interesting, right? Just wait until you read how customer service and product quality have been impacted by this change… And this is just one of the many ways in which an economist’s view paints a very different picture than the one we’re used to seeing. Wainwright’s fresh look at a decades-old problem shows not only how the narcotics industry is run, but also how the “war on drugs” could be more effective if law enforcement started thinking about the drug business as just another corporate jungle. --Seira Wilson

Review
“[Tom Wainwright] brings a fine and balanced analytical mind to some very good research…By looking at the drug trade as a business, Wainwright is able to reveal much about why it wreaks such havoc in Central and South America. Wainwright show[s] how drug violence is not so much senseless but the devastating result of economic calculations taken to their brutal extreme. [His] conclusion is titled 'Why Economists Make the Best Police Officers.' It is one of the pithiest and most persuasive arguments for drug law reform I have ever read.”—Misha Glenny, New York Times Sunday Book Review

“A lively and engaging book, informed by both dogged reporting and gleanings from academic research...”—Wall Street Journal

"A cracking read."—Reuters

"One of the most exciting business books of the last few years."—Management Today

"Tom Wainwright has powerfully argued in favor of legalizing drugs. He says that the policies aimed at stifling the drug trade seem to be misdirected and have failed... a controversial but well-argued book... a must-read for everyone interested in solving the drug issue. Wainwright makes a lot of sense at a time when the world seems helpless against drug traffickers."—The Washington Book Review

“Narconomics is the book that Sean Penn wanted to write. Tom Wainwright may not have interviewed Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, but he did talk to drug kingpins every bit as ruthless and intimidating in writing this book…[and] he makes a convincing case…[Narconomics] presents an incisive look into a worldwide problem. Few Americans have escaped the corrosive influence of the drug trade on a family member or friend; this book explains the magnitude of the problem.”—The Washington Times

“Tom Wainwright of the Economist brings a fine and balanced analytical mind to some very good research…”—Minneapolis Star Tribune

“Narconomics: How to Run a Drug Cartel could not have come at a more pertinent time…The Economist’s former Mexico City correspondent offers some needed context to the region wide debate over drug policy.”—Americas Quarterly

“[Wainwright’s] book is courageous on several levels… [he] challenges everyone at once—the dealers, the drug czars, and the bystanders in between. A daring work of investigative journalism and a well-reasoned argument for smarter drug policies.”—Kirkus Reviews

“Readers interested in the intersection of crime, economics, entrepreneurship, and law enforcement will find this work fascinating.”—Library Journal

Will Change Your Views on All Addictive Substances.
By John M. Messinger
I am a conservative dentist, with conservative social views and conservative prescribing practices, who once thought I knew most everything about drug lords, drug addicts, and addictive substances. Then, in October 2014 we found our 24 year old son, dead in our bathroom with a syringe in his hand. I have spent the past 16 months in grief, depression, and wanting to deal with drug dealers in the most violent, painful means imaginable but with no means, plan, or intel to carry this out. The local police have basically have shown zero interest in his case, since they ruled us out as suspects. This book has made me realize that our nation's (world's) drug problem is an economic problem and needs to be addressed in those terms. This extremely well written and researched book gives me a set of arguments to present to our state representatives. An excellent and less emotional review can be read above by Loyd Eskildson

Excellent Insight Into A Major Topic -
By Loyd Eskildson
This is the story of a business journalist sent to cover the most brutal industry on earth through the eyes of an economist. The author arrived in Mexico in 2010 - the number of those murdered that year would reach more than 20,000, about 5X that for all of Western Europe. The following years was even more violent. Every week the news brought new stories of corrupted cops, assassinated officials, and massacre after massacre. It is a global, highly organized business with products sold to 250 million worldwide. Annual revenues are about $300 billion. Yet, these ruthless outlaws have the same problems of other business leaders - managing personnel, navigating government regulations, finding reliable suppliers, and dealing with competitors. Their clients also are like other consumers - seeking reviews of new products, preferring to shop online, and even demanding a level of 'social responsibility' from their suppliers.

One of his first lessons was that the value of drugs seized is often summarized in numbers derived used prices paid by ultimate customers - considerably higher than what the product is worth 2,000 or more miles away. Thus, 134 tons of marijuana seized in six shipping containers in Tijuana was only worth about $10 million there, not the $500 million it would have been worth in Manhattan. And officials in Texas boosted their 'successes' by $1.6 billion just prior to performance reviews by revaluing drugs seized using retail instead of wholesale values

Taxpayers of the world pay $100+ billion a year combatting illegal drugs, with some $20 billion from the U.S. at the federal level making 1.7 million arrests/year and sending 250,000 to prison. Mexico's fearsome murder rate is not as high as some of the other countries on the cocaine-trafficking route, where thousands more are murdered each year attempting to fight the drug business.

Wainwright sees the overwhelming focus on suppressing the supply side of the business. Cutting supply, however, has done more to raise prices than to reduce consumption - creating a more valuable criminal market.

Virtually all cocaine is grown in Bolivia, Columbia, or Peru - made from the coca plant that is most at home in the 13,000 or so foot foothills of the Andes that take hours on gravel roads to get to. There it is a $90 billion/year industry. The leaf has been consumed in the Andes long before Europeans first arrived. Many natives suck on a wad of leaves throughout the day - in this form it has only a mild stimulant effect and supposedly helps ward off cold, hunger, and altitude sickness. Many hotels in La Paz serve coca tea to their guests. This 'traditional' use of the leaf is supported by a limited amount of land licensed for coca farming. Farmers can get up to three harvests/year, while coffee yields only a single harvest/year and is more difficult to grow. La Paz is one of two places in Bolivia where coca can be legally traded, and each incoming truck loaded with dried leaves displays license showing how much coca it is carrying and where it came from.

Bolivia's current president is a former coca farmer. He sees anti-drug efforts as meddling in Andean affairs - in 2008 he expelled the U.S. ambassador for interfering in local politics and booted the DEA at the same time. The U.N. estimated that in 2014 Bolivia had 50,400 acres devoted to coca, enough to produce about 33,000 tons of dried leaf. Since in that same year Bolivia's two licensed markets handled only about 20,000 tons, it's likely the rest was turned into cocaine.

The armies of both Columbia and Peru have been tasked with eliminating every trace of the coca bush - difficult to do in the mountainous terrain. Spotters' planes are helped by satellites. In 2015, Columbia indefinitely suspended its aerial spraying program after a WHO warning that the week killer may cause cancer. In 2014 the three nations laid waste to more than 300,000 acres, mostly by hand. However, total output hasn't changed much - thanks to more efficient cultivation and new plantings. Since for any given region, there usually is only one group of traffickers holding sway, that group dictates the price. Thus, the farmers bear the cost of eradication, disease, etc., not the cartel. The U.N. estimates that the average coca farmer in Columbia earns little more than $2/day.

Converting coca leaves to a damp, cream-colored paste known as cocaine base is the first step in converting coca leaves to cocaine powder. One ton of fresh leaves is dried until it weights about 660 lbs. The dried leaves are then chipped into smaller pieces and mixed with chemicals including cement, fertilizer, and gasoline, removing the cocaine from the waxy leaves. The remaining plant matter is then filtered out, the chemicals removed (most of them), and the remaining residue boiled down --> about a kilogram of cocaine base. It is then mixed with a solvent such as acetone, and with hydrochloric acid. This is filtered and dried to provide just under a kilogram of pure cocaine. Wainwright contends that by tripling the price of cocaine's raw ingredient in South America, its retail price in the U.S would rise 0.6% - not a good return on the billions of dollars invested in disrupting the supply from the Andes. Most of the time they serve merely to impoverish farmers.

Felipe Calderon became Mexico's president when there were about 10 murders/100,000. By 2012, the rate had doubled, and Calderon left office as the most unpopular president in Mexico's recent history. Previously, El Salvador had one of the world's highest murder rates, dwarfing that in Mexico - 71/100,000. But in 2012, within the space of a few days, peace broke out and the murder rate fell by two-thirds after its two main gangs agreed on a truce a truce. So, asks Wainwright, why did the Mexico market see heightened competition and the other collusion?

Juarez had about 400 murders/year within its 1.5 million population. But that began changing in 2008, and by summer of 2011, bodies were piling up at a rate of 300/month, many from out of town. The DEA estimates about 70% of cocaine entering the U.S. via Mexico does so at Juarez. Tightening up the border after 9/11 cut down business on both sides from 'day-trippers.' Juarez was difficult to split up, El Salvador was not.

The narcotics business has an image of ruthless professionalism. But it is also characterized by sometimes stunning incompetence that is frequently the cause of traffickers' downfall. Human resources is perhaps the biggest problem any drug cartel faces. Cartels must recruit workers in an industry where jobs cannot be advertised, total trust is required, and there are high levels of turnover (death, jail). (One British smuggler estimated that one in four cocaine 'mules' sent on flights from the Caribbean to the U.K. will be caught.) Another problem is that cartels must manage relations with staff, suppliers, and clients without an easy way of enforcing agreements - employing violence is the only way, but it's bad for business.

Many criminal gang organize themselves on the basis of race. A Dutch study found that disputes between parties belonging to the same ethnic group were significantly less likely to be resolved with violence - 29%, vs. 53%. Using Mexican nationals well known to the cartel's leadership and can easily be reshuffled every few months makes cells much harder to infiltrate than if they relied on making local hires. There are exceptions - eg. Nigerian heroin traffickers have found that white women are far less likely to get stopped at airports.

Jails provide a place to hire and train new staff members.

We all know that higher costs lower consumption. However, there's a much bigger impact for some products than others. One study estimated that a 10% rise in the price for marijuana would only create a 3.3% drop in demand, others have found even weaker relationships - eg. a 10% increase in the price cuts the number testing positive for cocaine by only 1.7%, and less than 1% for heroin. Thus, even big successes in raising the cost of drugs translate to only small victories in the number of people buying the drugs. Worse yet, this is also likely to boost drug-dealing profits. Wainwright suggests focusing on cutting demand would be more cost effective for governments - as much as 10X more.

Addictive
By Autamme_dot_com
More addictive than a bag of illicit drugs (one can imagine), this book takes a look at the multi-billion dollar global drug industry in an entirely different way, viewing it as a business and showcasing its different business functions. Narconomics, the economics of narcotics, in other words.

This is not just a book about drugs but a look at many areas of business and economics through a practical lens. It is all strangely addictive, informative and engaging. Tabloid newspapers need not fear; this book does not advocate the taking of illegal drugs or put the drug cartels on a pedestal in any way. As a business worth conservatively over USD300 billion a year, clearly those running it know what they are doing. No matter about the law, you just cannot run something of this scale or size without having finely tuned structures in place. If anything, the operation could arguably be even larger and certainly more efficiently were it legal.

You can look at the book in two distinct ways, either learning more about the global drugs trade and seeing how it uses big-business techniques to good effect, or you can use the examples given as a way to understanding business concepts that are often swaddled in theory and can be difficult to understand. It serves both well, packaged in an easy-to-read, informative form.

The author shows how business practices such as mergers and acquisitions, competition and collusion, social responsibility, media relations, human resources, franchising and strong management oversight are used within the drugs business. You might not look at it in the same light ever again.

You do not need to be interested in business to get a lot out of this book. It is great for a general reader and eminently suitable for anyone with an interest in business or the global drugs industry. Once you pick it up, it can be hard to put down though!
