"This book is aimed at undergraduates and is what it suggests in the introduction 'a straightforward approach' to anatomy and physiology. It is simplistic, and in places reminiscent of A-level text. However where the book doesn't deliver in depth of knowledge it surpasses itself in the illustrations. The chapter on the nervous system, has excellent informative diagrams where even the plexus appear understandable even to a novice. This is the book's strength and as a reference tool for patients would be helpful.�For qualified physiotherapists most chapters are basic; for example the musculoskeletal section. Within this chapter the diagrams are not detailed enough which is not the case in other sections. I wonder whether this is representative of the authors' backgrounds in nursing and biomedical science as the segments relating to physiology are written with confidence. One aspect which I was interested in was the book blurb claiming "new sections on the implications of normal ageing on structure and function of body systems" (whether or not this was due to passing a birthday milestone I cannot possibly comment), which was a disappointment (the book not the birthday). A short paragraph at the end of each chapter with bon mots such as 'loss of teeth may cause difficulty chewing' (pg 318) does not constitute a 'section', or at least not a section worth promoting. Before this book is tossed into the reject pile, the e-resources must be considered. Any educational book worth its marketing budget must incorporate e-learning and this book is no exception. To be honest, let's be thankful that it has. Easy to access, clear navigation and adding so much more to the book makes the on-line resource impressive and relevant; as a revision aid, a reference tool for you and patients. There are animations, drop and drag quizzes, case studies which make you think, "this information was in the book?”, clear (and much more detailed) interactive anatomy diagrams and all the book illustrations which you are able to save. The possibilities for patient education suddenly become more accessible and immediate than random searches through Internet engines. It also appears that once logged in this resource is free at http:evolve.elsevier.com/Waugh/anatomy so you don't have to purchase the book. Answering the question "is this a book for private physiotherapists?" I would suggest not. It would look pretty on the bookshelf, it has excellent and clear diagrams, however, at �32 I would invest in something else. Would I recommend accessing the e-learning resources? Yes."

For the price you get a lot, especially with the online animations and such. It is a bit frustrating of a read when terminology is used the first time without an explanation or definition given. The glossary is limited and should be significantly expanded. However, for the most part it is an easy to read nicely illustrated book.

This is a Nora Roberts, so of course I bought and read it—or tried to. Many people I’m sure do the same, and that’s why Roberts can afford to toss out this kind of crap. Brand recognition is priceless in marketing.

Roberts wrote this story years ago, except it was titled Montana Sky, and it was so much better.

Let me tell you what happened the first quarter—or “part” as Roberts likes to section it unnecessarily. We jump back and forth from past to present between a young woman who was abducted and forced to experience unspeakable horrors—I mean, been there, done that, in Roberts’ books alone—and the heroine, who does the most truly fascinating thing I’ve ever read—she goes through her morning routine, then goes to work, puts together agendas, and attends meetings.

Yeah. Seriously.

This book was so boring that at one point, maybe about a third of the way through, I got sick of spacing off and having to reread passages that I just shook my head and started flipping through pages, trying to find something exciting or even just interesting. So many scenes were irrelevant to any plot, whether it was the thriller or the romances. Some scenes were fluffy bits of nonsense with one important line thrown in. What a tangled, tedious mess of tones and points of view. Just a mess.

I knew Bo and Cal were supposed to be the main characters, but honestly, this wasn’t their book. If it was anyone’s, it was Alice’s, though we got to spend time with just about everyone, which annoyed the crap out of me. There was no focus. The book wanted to be too many things at once, and ultimately didn’t manage any of them. I didn’t care about the characters. Cal’s horse, Sundown, had more personality than he and Bo combined. And “Bodine Longbow”? Really? Did Roberts find a name generator website, select the categories of ‘hick’ and ‘western,’ and go with the first random name it threw at her? She’s used the name Bodine in at least two other books (Carolina Moon and Born in Shame, though in the former it was spelled “Bodeen”).

(Apologies to anyone named Bodine Longbow.)

It was just such a retread of many of Roberts' books. The Bodine name, a ranch in Montana, all the siblings in the same family falling in love at the same time, a religious fanatic villain who takes the Bible literally, a not-so-unexpected family connection to the villain (I suspected him the moment I met him), and an obvious misdirect. There was even a wedding and the planning thereof. It's not identical to Montana Sky or any other book, but it's far too similar for its own good.

So yeah, I didn’t read the whole thing; I just read the parts that included Alice, because she was the most interesting character out of the lot, the only one with an arc. And honestly, I don’t feel I missed anything.

To be fair, though, the writing style was pretty good, even if the story crafted in that style was crap. Roberts is exceptionally talented—if only she would write a story that isn’t a waste of her time and ours. If I had any complaints about the writing itself, it would be that there wasn’t enough action or physical description with dialogue, like mannerisms or facial expressions. We were largely left to assume the tone implied, and sometimes I had to stop and puzzle over the nuances within a conversation. If you aren’t accustomed to how Roberts speaks/writes, you might get confused.

Not Nora's Best

I usually love Nora Roberts, but this is not one of her best. The positive: as she always does, she created an intricately detailed world, with well-developed characters. Unfortunately it's one she's created before. The negative: it dragged on and on and on. And the predictable ending was... hurried, poorly described, and improbable. Too many subplots not resolved, And, I'm sorry, but this is the last time I'm paying 14.99 for a Kindle book. It's the last time I automatically pre-order a Nora Roberts book. She writes trilogies and stand alone romantic suspense. This felt like a trilogy that didn't quite gel.
If I didn't think it was unethical to return a book I actually did read, I would have returned this one.
I love Nora Roberts' books. I do. I read and re-read them. Not this one. The best character was Sundown, the horse, because he could be cute and he didn't talk.

Nora Roberts is my favorite author and I am shocked to find I just could not get through this book. The only character I could really connect with was Alice and her story is so dark it is overwhelming. I know very bad things happen every day, but I read to get away from everyday life for a while, I do not expect to end up sicken and depressed especially from a Nora book. This is my last Nora pre-purchase, I will read a sample before buying from now on.

About the Author

Laura E. Levine received her PhD in developmental and clinical psychology from the University of Michigan. After working with children and families at the Children’s Psychiatric Hospital and in private practice in Ann Arbor for 10 years, she moved to Connecticut and was a stay-at-home mother of her two children for 6 years. She returned to academia in 1994 and taught child psychology and life span development for 20 years at Central Connecticut State University, where she is currently a professor emerita of the Department of Psychological Science. She has received three university teaching awards, and her research on the social development of young children and on the relation between media use and attention difficulties has appeared in journals such as Developmental Psychology, the Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology, Infant Mental Health Journal, Infant and Child Development, Computers and Education, and CyberPsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking.

Dr. Levine has been very active in promoting excellence in college teaching. She was involved in the creation of the Center for Teaching Excellence at Central Connecticut State University and served on the board of the Connecticut Consortium to Enhance Learning and Teaching. She created numerous programs for faculty both at her university and at regional and national conferences. Her work on the scholarship of teaching and learning can be found in New Directions for Teaching and Learning, College Teaching and the International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

Joyce Munsch received her PhD in human development and family studies from Cornell University. She was a faculty member in human development and family studies at Texas Tech University for 14 years, where she also served as associate dean for research in the College of Human Sciences for 2 years. In 2002, Dr. Munsch went to the California State University at Northridge as the founding chair and professor in the Department of Child and Adolescent Development. She currently is an emeritus professor in the Department.

Dr. Munsch’s research has focused on adolescent stress and coping and social network research. Her work has been published in the Journal of School Psychology, Adolescence, The Journal of Early Adolescence, the Journal of Research on Adolescence, and the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry. Throughout her career, Dr. Munsch administered grants that supported community-based programs. She was the codirector of the Early Head Start program at Texas Tech University and co–principal investigator for three Texas Youth Commission (Department of Juvenile Justice) grants. At Cal State Northridge, she administered the Jumpstart program for over 10 years. Her commitment to community service learning was recognized in 2005 when she was awarded the CSUN Visionary Community Service Learning Award. In 2012, her service to the County of Los Angeles was recognized by a commendation from the County Board of Supervisors. At Texas Tech, she was the College of Human Sciences nominee for the Hemphill-Wells New Professor Excellence in Teaching Award, the Barnie E. Rushing Jr. Faculty Distinguished Research Award, the El Paso Energy Foundation Faculty Achievement Award, and the President’s Excellence in Teaching Award, and she received the Kathryn Burleson Faculty Service Award and the College of Human Sciences Outstanding Researcher Award.

As a first time user of SPSS, I was easily able to set up a data file using this reference book. It is very clearly written, easy to understand, and I think much better than the Pallant "SPSS Survival Manual" which I also purchased.

Like a Smart Little Friend that knows your Woes

Compared to so many of the other editions, this one (14th) seems to have most of the basics down and helps out quite a few people. For those thrust into the world of SPSS especially, this is a template that seems straight from the choirs of e-heaven. The format makes it REALLY easy to use: I've prepped a lot of programs by using manuals before, but most of them don't include pictures of what the screen should look like. Mallery fixes that omission, connecting all the dots and hitting so many functions of SPSS right on its virtual head.

Included are three sections: (1) A Simple Guide and Reference, (2) Base System Module, and Advanced and Regression Modules.
The first is basically an overview, how to make files and manage data, and how to create grapgs.

The final part covers Manova and Mancova, Repeated Measures Anova, Logistic Regression, Loglinears, and Residuals.

While this isn't EVERYTHING, it certainly is quite a bit to be walked through hand-in hand and makes things a lot easier. The picture guide is especially good if you are shaky about something, and this book does what a lot of books promise - it helps.

This book provides the real deal when working with SPSS 13.0. It is a little intimidating to work with, but so far it has answered many questions.

I have enjoyed this book. If you love to read about the unseen worlds and the beings and forces that drive it then this book will educate you further. There are exercises to do which assist you in tapping into this topic to understand it all a bit better. I am glad to have it and will not be selling it any time soon.
I run workshops, write books and do readings and love books like these as they provide wonderful reference material.

Extremely Interesting!

I already loved this author. This book is so informative, and amazing!
If you have ever wondered where some of the sayings came from, and what they actually mean, this book
answered a great deal of that for me.
Plus, it is a wealth of info. about the ancient ones, and how to work with them.
I would also recommend Wicca the Complete Craft by D.J. Conway. The historical data, along with
secrets being revealed for the present time is wonderful!!!!!!! Chery.
