Especially if you're photographer love to shoot stars and night scene

I bought this calendar just a few weeks ago for 2016 and I'm already loving it in 2015!!

Especially if you're photographer love to shoot stars and night scene, this calendar is must to have I believe.
I am not photographer but I love to go camping, hike at night (full moon hike is must try! you don't need headlight!)
This calendar will not only show you moon phases but also show you all the cool events going on up in the sky such as meteor showers and Lunar eclipse and more!! So now I know when to plan a next trip to hike at full moon, or go camping at dark when there is no moon, or go to desert and take shooting star pictures!

And needless to say, each month it's got super cool pictures which I would never be able to shoot!! So beautiful!!
I wish I can go check out all the places in the pics!
This is the main reason I bought this. I am planning to keep each picture as month goes by since it's too beautiful to throw away after only one month. and I'm gonna go there! I don't know how long it will take to go all the places but definitely that's my near future plan.

I can't choose best picture but if I had to, I personally love December and November pictures the most since I am California resident. but again every month has super cool pics!!

Amazing map, nothing special about the book though.

This is a fantastic book when it comes with the map! It's the first map I've seen of its kind... it shows time/space of the largest empires in the world. Without the map though this is just a moderately interesting read, but you can find it all for free on Wikipedia. Still haven't seen the map anywhere else though.

Excellent timeline LOADED with information, but seriously tiny print. Like smaller than a cold medicine label in the middle of the night in dim light. Be prepared with a magnifying glass, your readers won't cut it. Even still, I love this timeline.

An Owen McKenna mystery? I can't turn the pages fast enough!

When I read one of Todd Borg's Owen McKenna books, I simply cannot turn the pages fast enough. There's always a first-class mystery to solve, new things to learn, plenty of adrenaline-pumping action to survive, and-- most of all-- a wonderful cast of characters to catch up with.

As usual, the gorgeous scenery of Lake Tahoe can be considered a character in Tahoe Blue Fire, and like most characters it can sometimes be high maintenance, which is why readers get to learn a bit about the machines that remove all the snow that falls in the area, and how they get rid of the huge piles of white stuff so we can drive safely on the roads. However, if snow and machinery aren't your things, you can also pick up information on computer forensics, Traumatic Brain Injury, service dogs, and history-- from the Medicis in Italy to local Tahoe history when Frank Sinatra was in town.

The story is yet another good one, although one segment that takes place away from Lake Tahoe made the story's momentum falter a bit, and the curious behavior of one of the characters clued me in to the identity of the killer too soon for my liking. Tiny blips on my radar however, because Tahoe Blue Fire is packed with goodies.

As usual, Borg's wonderful cast of characters provide the majority of those goodies. Owen McKenna has a great supporting cast: two buddies on the local police and sheriff's departments; a love interest with a brilliant mind of her own; and Owen's constant companion, a Harlequin Great Dane named Spot who wears a faux diamond stud in one ear. Spot is fantastic-- one of my favorite dogs in literature. Spot is a well-trained dog that helps out whenever and wherever he can, but the thing I love about him most is that Spot isn't Super Dog; he doesn't go around spelling "Help!" in the mashed potatoes. Mostly he wags a lot. And watches you eat. Spot's a typical dog that makes a difference each and every day, just like a lot of other dogs.

When it comes to characterization, Borg knows that the best kind is most often found in small but telling details. It's the fact that McKenna gets himself into a lot of dangerous situations, yet he doesn't carry a gun. It's the fact that he has a key to his girlfriend's house, but only uses it when she tells him to. It's the fact that McKenna feels guilty because he didn't take his client more seriously and she was killed as a result. And it's the fact that he takes the time to show a young K-9 officer how to care for his stressed-out dog. The entire Owen McKenna series is filled with moments-- facts-- like this, and as a result, this reader has come to care deeply for these characters.

If you see that this is the thirteenth book in the series, and you just don't feel like investing in something this long, I hope you'll reconsider. You'll find that Tahoe Blue Fire reads very well as a standalone. If you're the type of reader (like me) who loves good stories and characters who feel like a part of your family, you'll be glad you've found a series with some meat on its bones. Either way you look at it, this series is one of my favorites, and I recommend it highly.

A terrific addition to the Owen McKenna series!

The timing of the release of each of Todd Borg's Owen McKenna Tahoe mysteries is perfect! It is just at the time of year I need a book in which I can get lost, whether on the ocean beach or on a comfy bench at Regan Beach overlooking the striking Lake Tahoe. At home I have certainly stayed up way too late because I just had to know what happens next, and then next after that. Tahoe Blue Fire does not disappoint in this regard. While I disciplined myself to take some breaks so that the book would last longer, I could have read it straight through.
I got my Todd Borg fix for the summer and, as always, I learned new information to compensate for the committed time; this year about the Renaissance, gemology, the process of snow removal and the workings of the massive snow blower machines that rescue us in Tahoe from the mounds of accumulated winter snow and the disaster of traumatic brain injury in football players. Spot, the harlequin great dane and Owen's constant side kick, does his share of "bad guy" containment and teaches us more about the inner life of dogs. Every large dog I see in Tahoe causes a second glance just in case Spot has jumped off of the pages of these delightful books.
The well developed mystery keeps you hooked, the characters give heart to the story and the extensive research helps you feel like you are using your time in the pursuit of advanced education. Thanks, Todd, for another terrific book.

The Irish in America was created, in part, as a companion to the PBS documentary series of the same name that was first aired in January 1998. Journalist Terry Golway's text provides a solid backbone to the book: she tells the usual story of Irish involvement in American politics and also sheds light on contributions that the Irish have made to American industry and culture. Golway's text is interspersed (sometimes a bit confusingly) with hundreds of illustrations, as well as with many brief essays by Irish American notables, including historians, novelists, comedians, musicians, and politicians. Beautiful book, well done and full of facts.

As a person of Irish descent, I was very happy to see "The Irish in America". This book is full of colorful illustrations showing what the Irish have accomplished in this country. I am referencing the book in my MA, History Thesis, this Autumn.
On page 57, however, the editors have made an understandable error. They attribute the founding of Manhattan College (1853), De La Salle University (1863) and St. Mary's (Moraga, California, (1863) to the Irish Christian Brothers. As a 1965 graduate of Manhattan College, I can tell you that these three colleges were founded by the French Christian Brothers, also know as the De La Salle Brothers. This teaching order was founded in Paris by St. John Baptist de la Salle, and predates the Irish Christian Brothers by almost two hundred years. To my knowledge, the only college founded by the Irish Christian Brothers in the U.S. is Iona College (1940) in New York. Personally, I enjoyed the book, found new facts about the Irish in America, and would recommend it to any Irish or Irish-American person.

Famous Irish offer engrossing overview of culture in USA

Coffey and Golway give a wonderful overview of the experiences of Irish men and women in the United States. Coming to the U.S. as a result of political an religious oppression, as well as a result of the potato blight in the mid-19th century, the Irish worked hard to gain respectablity and political voices as American citizens. In many cases, especially in the early 20th Century, to be Irish was to be a second class citizen in the U.S. Today's attitudes prove that the Irish have come a long way in American society from being judged as such to becoming a very proud and celebrated nationality in our country.
Coffey and Golway use numerous anecdotes, excerpts, and other quotations from famous and not so famous Irish Americans. Included in this book are Denis Leary, Frank McCourt, and a forward by Patrick Kennedy. Reflections of these Irish-American personalities on their grandparents' or parents' lives and hard work, as well as memories of Catholic school, and other aspects of Irish-American life. Glossy photographs accent each passage beautifully and add to the overall attraction of the book. Contributions by all the authors provides a celebration of Irish ethnicity and heritage in the United States that is portrayed as humorous, melancholy, but overall proud. This book accents the PBS Documentary by the same name very nicely. After reading this book, I wished in a sense, that I had some Irish heritage.

bought this for background info for genealogy project. easy to understand. i purchased one for each of my children so they may understand what their ancestors experienced.
